Super fun for my 15 month oldFeb 11, 2010 The hammer balls were given to my 15 month old son at Christmas and he loves it. It took no time at all for him to learn to hammer the balls and then set them back in their holes and hammer again. I have had other Plan toys and they have all been great. Very simple design and very well made.
A FavoriteDec 08, 2009 This has been one of my son's favorite toys since he was 9 months old. He is 16 months now. Wish I could buy more of just the wooden balls. My child is somewhat obsessed with them. The only downside to this toy is that the wooden balls are sometimes used for potentially destructive purposes such as making noise on the television screen. So far, he hasn't managed to smash the TV yet. I'll be less pleased with this toy if he ever succeeds. For now, I really like it.
Our son loves this but it isn't as durable as I thought.Nov 10, 2009 We got this as a gift for our son last Christmas. He was only 6 months at the time but grew to love this toy. Even before we allowed him to use the hammer he was able to push the balls through. We prefer wooden toys over plastic because they usually prove to be more durable. The balls are heavy and the hammer could definitely do damage it could pose problem though we haven't had any. The green runners underneath the toy have unfortunately become loose though they haven't fallen off. We'll probably have to glue a bit before we use it with our next child.
Mom of an Adventurous totSep 30, 2009 My son loves this toy. He hammers the balls through, and then he will throw the balls across the room, and run over and pick them up and start all over again. Wooden toys are the best. So much better than plastic. Plan Toys is one of the most safest toy companies out there. Thank you Plan Toys!

Beautiful Toy -- Needs Adult SupervisionMay 08, 2009 I love Plan Toys, and this one in particular is a beautiful keepsake. However, the wooden balls are quite hard and just the right size for my 13 month old to throw across the room with ferocious force! I'm worried that if another child or a pet were around, he could really hurt someone. Same goes with the hammer. He hammers away at the balls with energy and force. If this same force were used on a person or a pet, serious harm could be done!
My son loves this toy however. He often pushes the balls into the holes with his hands and the hammer is not even a consideration. He learned quickly how to play with this toy (with and without the hammer). The toy itself is simple enough for him to gain confidence, and he repeats the process over and over again, keeping him entertained.
I would recommend this toy, but only while an adult is sitting with the child while he / she plays with it. Left to his own devices, someone could get injured by the parts. Adult supervision is a must with this one!
