Not a good set, except for the harmonicaFeb 09, 2010 The Xylophone in this set is crap. It just sounds like wood hitting wood and almost no musical note comes out at all. I think if they put some rubber washers in between it would work better but I'm not sure. The kazoo in my set might have been broken when I got it because it makes no sound. The harmonica is the only redeeming piece in this set, as it is a pretty good one for the price. You should just buy a harmonica separately if you want one though, and skip this set completely. This is a definite "don't buy".
xylophone is worthless, everything else is fineFeb 04, 2010 We bought this for our son's second birthday. He loves music and we thought this would be perfect. The harmonica is great and he learned to play that quickly. The kazoo he hasn't really taken to yet (almost a year later) but it works fine (although I would have liked it to be finished wood instead of raw since it does get wet being played). The shaker and the castanets are fine - nothing special but work ok. Unfortunately the xylophone is miserable!! I had hoped for a nice xylophone to be able to play simple tunes and scales with him. I don't mind the wood (many high quality professional xylophones are wood) and would even be ok with a "muted" sound as some reviewers described this. But I really hoped for a MUSICAL sound to the xylophone and well this is just a wooden stick hitting wooden slates - I could have made that myself. Looking at the slates they don't appear to be made with any quality control and there is no way to even play a simple scale with this. Unfortunately they are not musical. I had hoped for better from Melissa & Doug but was sorely disappointed with the xylophone.
Excellent !!!Jan 07, 2010 I purchased this band set for my 18 month old grandson who seems to like music. While he hasn't mastered any Beethoven symphonies yet, he has great fun with the various items and makes quite a racket !! I highly recommend this item for any child who likes music or just likes making the different sounds.
Everything is very well constructed and will still be in one piece long after the child has outgrown it.

Not impressed and don't recommendDec 16, 2009 This looks like a very nice package with natural materials, but I don't recommend. The xylophone barely makes any noise, maybe only 2 bars work, and is extremely off key. One clapper doesn't work due to manufacturing defect, and the kazoo doesn't work. I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
